Description
Bajra goes by several name including pearl millet, bulrush millet, babala, etc. Pearl millet is a fibre rich millet that belongs to the grass family of poaceae that was first domesticated in the Sahel zone of West Africa. Now it is grown as a monsoon crop both in the Indian subcontinent and Africa.
Bajra is energy boosting and rich in antioxidants, fibre, niacin, protein and iron, it is a good alternative to other carbohydrates available for its nutritional value and high dietary fibre. Regular consumption of bajra helps in controlling cholesterol, regulates blood sugar levels, contains minerals like magnesium, zinc and phosphorous which provides abundant health benefits.
Bajra is an adaptable grain that can be soaked and used as an alternative to rice in khichdi or as a flour or one can sprout it to use in salads or porridge, etc. Bajra is gluten free, that means food without protein called gluten and as per Ayurveda, gluten free implies easy and light to digest.
