On an average, a normal washing machine takes around 2.5 units of electricity, on the other hand, Drumi works without electricity. It took three years of product development for the washing machine and making several changes from the initial design. The machine consists of a curved handle which makes it easy for transportation. The handle also serves as a lock to keep the lid secure during washing. The machine is 16.4 inches tall which is a lot shorter than a usual washing machine. This feature of the machine makes it utilize less space at your home.

How to Operate Drumi?

To start with, the basic operation of Drumi is very simple. The user is required to load the machine with around 2.25 kg of clothes. Add tap water and detergent. Don’t go for the switch to turn on the electricity since Drumi works with your energy. Therefore, all you need to do is pedal to wash the clothes. After draining the soapy water the user can add fresh to rinse the cloths for 3 minutes. By pumping the pedal with more pressure the user can dry the clothes before emptying the machine. All without electricity.

The Drumi washing machines are in the production line and will be out on the market this summer.  The machine will be available to the consumers in US $299. As a result of this innovation, there will be a lot of benefits to the society as well as for the environment. The paddling feature of the machine can be a good exercise for the users. It will reduce the use of electricity which can cut down the bills. The machine uses less water which will be a relief for urban households.
