Food, Inc. is a 2008 American documentary film directed by filmmaker Robert Kenner. The film showcases corporate farming in the United States, brings to light how unhealthy food is produced by unsustainable ways that are also abusive to animals and employees.
The film initially explores the large scale production of meat, shows how it is inhumane and economically and environmentally unsustainable. The second segment explores industrial agriculture, primarily corn and soybeans. The film’s final segment is about the clout major food companies wield, which is used to influence policy decisions. Profiting from circumventing labeling regulations, supplying contaminated food and promotion of unhealthy eating habits by the American public that is likely to influence consumption habits globally. The film also emphasises on the silver lining that Wal-Mart and other large retailers are moving towards organic foods to cash in on the recent health-driven consumption boom.
The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 82nd Academy Awards. It has an IMDB rating of 7.8 and is rated 95% fresh on Rotton Tomatoes.
