The entire human population is progressing towards building a stable platform to make the planet earth a more and more sustainable place following the serious threats and consequences. Following this road, the world’s largest beer brewing company ‘AB InBev’, shares at stake, it’s successful attempt of a ‘low-carbon method’ for adding bubbles to beer.
Generally, wort or the liquid that is produced while making beer or whiskey is boiled at 212°F (100°C) or sometimes even higher depending on the gravity of the respective wort. This boiling point is attainted to create the bubbles in the beer. This process emits high amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas in the end. This also consumes huge shares of heat and water.
However, AB InBev’s low-carbon method ensures to reduce the company’s carbon dioxide emission by 5%. To achieve this, the manufacturing process involves heating the brew to just below the boiling point, then pumping in CO2 or nitrogen to create gas bubbles. The company also claims that as a result of cutting emission out from the process, the manufactured beer stays fresh for a longer time.
However, the most appealing factor of this technique is the amount of water that is saved by the low-carbon method of brewing. This method reduces 0.5% of water consumption that is equivalent to 1200 Olympic swimming pools. The company also takes regard for saving 80% energy by inculcating this process.
This third most popular drink in the globe after water and tea has been one of the most picked beverages in India. Talking statistics of India, Indian beer market noticed a protracted increase between the years 2011 and 2015 from 468 million liters to 2366 million liters respectively. In such a wide competitive landscape of beer market, a mere 0.5% decrease in the water consumption level will lead to substantially immense positive growth to the water conservation effort that has been a major concern in the phase of our country currently. This can serve pertinent financial aspects of the business market too.
The experiment by a world’s largest beer manufacturing company also paves a pathway to inspire numerous industries to pay attention to the world’s growing concern of conserving and build a sustainable environment.
