With the growing concern of global warming, the importance of living more sustainably is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. Ever wonder how you can be looking after the planet and have fun at the same time?

Well No Planet B have the answers! They are the inclusive community for the conscious generation and are on a mission to make the sustainable living the social norm. Having quickly established themselves as London’s freshest outfit to watch for eco-friendly speakers and the newest caterers of international meat and dairy-free street food, their next London event on October 25th will see them grow with a larger venue for their already avid fan base, featuring food-waste fighters, Oddbox, ToastAle, Rejuce and plant-based diet Instagram star Max La Manna. And let’s not forget reusable cup giant Keep Cup sharing their expertise on reducing single-use items being sent to landfill.

The brainchild of No Planet B, Chris Bush (25) believes now is the perfect time for an inclusive conscious platform where people can learn how to live greener lives and network with like-minded people, leaving inspired with their newfound knowledge.

Chris says “the planet shouldn’t have to suffer because people want to socialise and have fun, there are many steps that we can take to low impact”. And that’s where No Planet B’s sustainable guide to socialising comes into play. Enjoy and remember next time you leave the house, check this guide to make sure you have everything you need to have fun whilst leaving a minimal impact on the planet:

1. OFFSET EMISSIONS

Going to a party across town? Cut down on your Carbon foot-print and Cycle to the event or travel by trains and buses.

For longer distance events, why not reach out to other people attending and organise for a group of you to travel together in one car. And if finances allow, invest in an electric car.

2.KEEP IT DIGITAL

Whether it be a concert ticket or train ticket don’t print it! Charge that phone and keep it digital for your entry tickets and use your contactless card for travel.

By 2030 if we don’t act now, only 10% of rainforests will remain meaning 70% of the world’s plants and animals will lose their natural habitats, so it’s vital we cut out unnecessary printing! Keep this in mind when networking also, use your phone to take pictures of business cards and any leaflets that you are given.

3. PACK YOUR OWN

Bring a reusable food container and cutlery out with you, ideally a tin container with a lid so that you can take it home with you to wash.

We offer a 50p saving if you bring your own to our events. Even if there are biodegradable options available, why choose them when you can reuse your own?

Every year in the UK we waste 10 million tons of food worth 17billion pounds. And if food waste was a country it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases after the US and China. So by bringing your own container, you can take food home that you didn’t eat or the host had leftover.

4. REDUCE SINGLE USE CONSUMPTION

Leaving the house? Then don’t forget your tote bags, which can fold nicely into a small pocket! Even if you don’t intend to buy anything, always pack it as a back up to save on having to use a plastic bag which can take up to 10,000 years to decompose!

Many summer or outdoor events serve drinks in plastic single-use cups, which can take 450+ years to decompose. Why not pack a reusable KeepCup and use that to drink wine, beer or even your coffee from? For coffee cups alone, every minute over one million disposable cups are discarded to landfill. Very little recycled paper is used to make disposable cups because of contamination concerns. Because most disposable cups are coated with plastic, both composting and recycling of disposable cups is uncommon.

5. ETHICAL SHOPPING

Planning on buying a new outfit for an upcoming night out? Stop to consider the effects of the fast fashion industry! 2/3’s of all fibres are cotton-based, which uses a substantial amount of water to grow, having a strain on the environment. Why not explore second-hand stores like Beyond Retro on browse online at eBay or Depop? There are lots of opportunities to give something a second life, and when you are done with them, help them stay in the circular economy by donating, selling or recycling.

Do you want to be a part of an inclusive community for the conscious generation? Join No Planet B for an evening of expert-led talks, panel discussions, an ethical market, live music, Zero Waste vegan food vendors and a Zero Waste vegan bar.
