Convert, not Just Cut that CO2

Convert, not Just Cut that CO2

If you are reading this article, you already agree that climate change is real. Carbon dioxide is gradually becoming a menace beyond control, and that many world leaders have started taking this thing seriously.

However, there is a possibility that you might feel that all the people are doing is just a little more than lip service. This article is to puncture that myth!

And before any of you jumps the gun, yes, we agree that a lot needs to be done but to ensure that the same happens, we will have to celebrate the ones who are making a mark.

One such story is of Ambuja Cements group, which recently got its 2030 Carbon Emission Reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), aligned with the reductions required to limit global warming to below 2 degrees. In addition, the company signed the “Business Ambition for 1.5-degree celsius” pledge, thus joining the Race to Zero campaign of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

With this target in mind, Ambuja Cements commits to reducing its CO2 intensity in cement operations from 531 kg in 2020 to 453 kg net CO2 per ton of cementitious material by 2030. Some critical efforts taken in this direction include reducing the clinker factor, improving the Thermal Substitution Rate, Reducing Thermal and Electrical energy intensity, implementing Waste Heat Recovery System, and increasing the capacity of renewable energy generation.

PS: SBTi enables companies to develop a clearly defined decarbonisation roadmap in alignment with the goals of the Paris Agreement, thus promoting a Net-Zero energy system.

And while this itself is a piece of big news, the team at Ambuja Cement has been working on many other sustainable projects. In addition to using clean technology, the firm, under its Geocylce arm, is working on implementing Bubble Barriers across several locations in India to prevent the plastic pollution of the water bodies. One major implementation of this concept has taken place on the Yamuna River in Agra.

Sustainability, you see, is a matter of lifestyle; it isn’t a one-time activity.

There is a high possibility that you know people who have been driving these impactful changes towards environmental protection.
