Much earlier than the Swatch Bharat Mission, there were the environmentalists and other scientists that stressed on the outcomes of using the non-renewable resources and what havoc effects can have on the earth and the environment. But who cared? No one, right? But, when our planet gave up and started destroying us, then few of us did start working for the good. With the giving up on the use of single plastic to using renewable resources, all researched on how to invent materials that can be recycled, reused and reduced. Here in India a few years back, a man from Assam, Dhritiman Bohra, with years of study, invented bamboo bottles that are made without any toxic chemicals and is 100% natural. People started cleaning ponds, rivers and sea beaches as part of their duty towards nature. Even few municipal corporations took the spotlight in terms of their modules for having a clean and green city like the Kochi Module, Panaji Module, Gorai module, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
Now, the term waste management is the process whereby the waste materials are collected, transported, processed, disposed of, managed and monitored. Some of the wastes even get managed so that they can efficiently put to use. Did you know that researchers have yet found out a way of producing energy from these waste that gets generated from household and industries? Thus, for this particular reason, some countries even borrow waste from other countries as they manage their waste so efficiently that they have no leftover. Strange but true!
Let’s see how we can practice waste management in our daily lives and on occasions we cannot miss!
Reduce your paper use
Since we started our environmental studies in school, we learned that we should stop using paper, but we have not stopped. Some industries are on their feet in producing marketing materials such as leaflets and brochures, tokens for supplying the information to your potential customers.
You can use to format the pages to be double-sided for any event information or for your personal use too. In an event, you can provide handouts only on request. It is the fact that 60 per cent of literature handed out at different events and shows gets thrown away unread!
Go Digital
We are living in the digital era where the world is in our hands so, why not use the technology to absorb and utilize information to reduce the use of hard copy? We can produce electricity by water too, and paper need trees, which is why we have to cut them down. However, these are renewable, but why to waste them, as people do not plant trees as they promise!
Alternatively, you can use e-tickets or digital passes. Even you can develop an app for all the information that gets itself broadcasted to live updates and documents. Use all sorts of digitized tools so that no waste gets gathered after the show is over.
Start Using Well Sourced and Sustainable Resources
While talking about well-sourced and sustainable resources, all sums up as reusable. Suppose you would need the hard copies you can opt for the recycled-paper, chlorine-free papers. These wastes help to reduce the harmful toxins and fumes into the environment as they get designed using clean processes. While going for the decorations of any booth, rent or borrow, but don’t steal! You would be cutting down on waste and transportation emissions.

An Absolute NO to Single-Use Plastic
Re-writing about recycled or reused products we want to stress about the fact about not using single-use plastic. Even you can use all the products that you may apply for any event an interchangeable and reused idea. See that the food packaging, water bottles or glasses are unwrapped and gets recycled in the right way. Avoiding the water bottles is a must as for an alternative you can set up a water dispenser. Let me tell you that you can save 100 to 200 times money by having tap water than spending on water bottles.
Waste Solutions
To promote recycling, you can set up labelled and coloured bins and keep organic waste in a separate container for composting. For any giveaway, use the reusable and well-sourced items.
While going out for shopping, carry your bags like the jute or paper ones. This one step reduces an extra bag being sold and coming to your home. Avoid any pre-packed fruits and veggies in containers and plastics.
In different countries, even sewage waste gets treated in a way that the rivers, ponds and water bodies do not get contaminated.
Collaborate
You can collaborate! I mean, with different organizations and companies that aim at saving the environment as they have an innovative way of conserving waste. Public-Private Partnerships for Service Delivery (PPPSD) approach that promotes sustainable and self-supporting partnerships between various businesses and local governments. These type of collaborations stimulates the cooperation between public, private and public stakeholders. Not only this, but it aims at minimizing the adverse effects of waste in poor communities, improvement of recycling and solid waste management and businesses in rural and urban communities equally.
