Happy 50 years of Earth Day! In the late 1960s, US senator from Wisconsin Gaylord Nelson witnessed up close an oil spill and was horrified by what it did to the marine ecosystem. But no one else was bothered. This was a time when environment conservation was an alien concept and air pollution was considered, ‘the scent of prosperity.’
Nelson and his team fought hard to create the first-ever Earth Day. It was born on 22nd April 1970 and along with it, the modern environmental movement. Nelson is long gone, but stewards of Earth are not.
We have Jane Goodall and Greta Thunberg. We have George Monbiot and Marina Silva. We have you and me. Together we come forward to celebrate this pale blue dot we call home and the rich full lives we lead on it. Here’s what we have in store for you.
Let’s celebrate earth festival
Starting today, we’re kicking off Earth Festival. We’ll conclude it on 5th June, Environment Day. We’ll be hosting online concerts, videos with earth warriors and changemakers from around the globe and webinars teeming with interesting insights and knowledge sharing.

The first fifty years of Earth Day passed us by. The next 50 are crucial. It will determine the survival of our species. We need all hands on deck. We need all the dreamers out there to act.
