A Japanese bikemaker’s innovative idea of using the bicycle to purify contaminated water to clean drinking water.
Consumption of unsafe drinking water leads to waterborne diseases like diarrhea, jaundice and gastroenteritis. Unfortunately most part of the world is still suffering from access to clean water. Various technologies viz. Micro-filtration, Demineralization, Ionization, Ultrafiltration, and Reverse Osmosis etc. are available which can solve the water crisis. But the major problem in these solutions reaching the mass is cost and scalability.
A scalable and cost-effective solution is required to solve the global water crisis
According to data from UNICEF, nearly 2 million children die due to consumption of unclean water. In order to solve the large problem of providing safe water to local and rural people. An innovative product called Cycloclean is invented by a Japanese maker Nippon Basics. The bicycle model purification system can provide clean water from any water sources. The rural people can ride the bicycle to the nearest water source, such as groundwater, river, pond, pools or even wells and can convert those water into clean drinkable water.
Cycloclean consists of all elements equipped to clean any kind of contaminated water
The Cycloclean bike consists of a kinetic water purifier. The bike is fixed with a capacity to clean up to 3 tons of water within 10 hours enough to serve water to over 1,500 people. The user of a cycloclean bike just needs to pedal in order to get clean water. The operation is simple, maintenance free and durable making it convenient for all kinds of regions.
Post successful testing, the Cycloclean bike is now being launched in many countries and Bangladesh being their focus market. Nippon Basic Co. Ltd. after serious of experiments have launched products Cycloclean, and Cycloaqua in Bangladesh. The two variants of the bike were developed locally from their Bangladesh factory cutting production costs. This effort will make the bike affordable to all ranges of people.
