Smart Ocean Task Chair: Chairs Made From Ocean Plastic

Humanscale, a company with a focus on developing high-performance tools supporting a healthy way of living, has designed world’s first Smart Ocean Task Chair. The chair is highly sustainable as it is made from recycled ocean plastic.

According to EcoWatch, there are approximately 6,000 pieces of plastic per square mile on ocean’s surface. Most of the plastic on land generally end up in ocean endangering marine life and worsening ocean pollution.

Humanscale is doing its bit to clean up the oceans. The Smart Ocean Task Chair is made up of 2lbs. of recycled fishing net material. The product is developed by Humanscale in collaboration with Bureo. Fishing nets are responsible for almost 10% of the ocean plastic. Th chair not only helps in cleaning oceans but also supports the health and comfort of its customers.

Bureo runs a Net Positiva recycling program which helps in providing the discarded fishing net plastic. After converting nets into plastic pellets, they are manufactured into products such as skateboards, sunglasses and now chairs.

Humanscale received the full certification in 2016 and started making the eco-friendly products. The key is to recycle the plastic and reduce the manufacturing of new plastic.
