for the people of Bangladesh.
With the recent resolution of World Bank committing to inject 560 Million Dollars into Bangladesh with a specific focus on Sustainability, there are signs of the condition in the country improving.
The $560 Million will be used with a specific focus on bringing in micro-enterprises in small-scale industries, ensuring environmental sustainability and providing reliable power supply to citizens.
Zahid Hussain, World Bank acting country director for Bangladesh, commented that “By improving electricity transmission and helping micro-enterprises adopt environment-friendly technologies, these projects will help Bangladesh achieve sustainable growth and advance towards upper middle-income country vision.”
The sustainable micro-enterprises projects will cover areas such as Agriculture and allied sectors, food processing, leather & textiles, metal products, plastic, and engineering.
This intervention will provide new electricity connections to over 275,000 households and 16,000 agricultural consumers. Further, the funds will help the country in developing 20,000 microenterprises adopt environmentally friendly practices.
The World Bank is the first development partner to support Bangladesh following its independence. Since then Bangladesh has been the largest receiver of the World Bank’s interest-free credits.
